How to choose a hallway runner
Choose a runner that leaves a strip of floor visible on each side, about 4 to 5 in (10 to 13 cm), and that stops at least 6 in (15 cm) short of the wall at each end. Then check that every door along the hallway opens freely over it.

Ready-made runners usually come 2 ft, 2 ft 3 in, 2 ft 6 in or 3 ft wide, and 8, 10 or 12 ft long. Ours are woven to order, so a 2.5 x 10 ft runner, a 2 ft 9 in width or a 16 ft hallway are all possible: you enter the width and length on the product page, and it shows the price and the estimated delivery for that size.
Flatweave or pile?
A hallway takes more footsteps than any room in the house. A flatweave, such as our Zanafi runner, sits low so doors pass over it. A pile runner is softer and quieter, and works well beside a bed or in an upstairs hallway where no door opens across it. Either way, a thin felt and rubber rug pad stops a runner from creeping.
