Tazrirt Moroccan Runner Rug – Black & Ivory Checkerboard – Handmade Wool

Origin & Story

This Tazrirt Collection runner takes the checkerboard, a pattern widely woven in Morocco today, and renders it in the strongest contrast available. The shaggy wool keeps the graphic pattern from feeling hard. We do not attribute it to a specific tribe or region.

Design & Visual Identity

Black and ivory squares alternate in rows of four across the width and repeat down the whole runner. The grid is hand-counted, so rows shift slightly and some squares are a little wider or taller than their neighbors.

In the close-up photographs, the black pile is deep and matte and the ivory has a creamy tone. Stray ivory fibers cross into the black squares, which softens the boundary. The long edges are bound, and each short end carries a row of ivory fringe.

Craftsmanship & Materials

Handwoven from 100% wool, the runner has a high, shaggy pile that feels soft underfoot. The checks are woven by hand and are not perfectly square. Each runner is made to order, and the number of rows depends on the length you choose.

Styling Your Space

A checkerboard runner makes a strong line down a hallway or along a bed. It suits wood floors, white or warm-toned walls and simple furniture. In an entryway it sets a graphic tone for the rest of the home.

Care & Everyday Use

Vacuum with suction only and without a beater bar, which can pull long pile. Shake the rug out occasionally to lift the fibers, and expect some shedding at first. Blot spills at once with a dry cloth and avoid rubbing. Rotate the rug every few months and use a wool rug specialist for deep cleaning.

Size & Custom Orders

Custom sizes are available, including longer or wider runner formats. The rug is woven to order and the pattern is repeated or spaced to suit the length you choose. Measure the hallway or room before ordering and leave a margin of floor on each side. Slight variations in color and line are part of the handmade character.

Shipping & Returns

Worldwide shipping is available. The rug is produced to order, so allow time for weaving before dispatch and for transit afterward. We can give a current estimate for your size on request. Please read the Shipping & Returns policy for return eligibility, time limits and conditions for custom orders.
