Tazrirt Moroccan Area Rug – Beige & Ivory Checkerboard – Handmade Wool

Origin & Story

This Tazrirt Collection rug uses one of the simplest patterns there is and lets the wool do the rest. Checkerboard rugs are widely woven in Morocco today in many color pairs; this one stays neutral. We do not attribute it to a specific tribe or region.

Design & Visual Identity

Beige and ivory squares alternate across the whole rug in an even grid. From a distance the pattern is regular; up close each square has a slightly different outline, because the long pile falls across the boundaries. The beige ranges from sand to light taupe within a single square.

The close-up photographs show thick, slightly curled tufts and a braided ivory edge. On the reverse the checks are sharp and finely ribbed. The rug is finished with bound edges, without long fringe.

Craftsmanship & Materials

Handwoven from 100% wool, the rug has a high, shaggy pile that feels soft and springy underfoot. The grid is counted by hand, so rows are not perfectly straight and squares vary slightly in size. Each piece is made to order, and the number of squares depends on the dimensions.

Styling Your Space

A neutral checkerboard works as a pattern and as a plain rug at once. It suits modern rooms with gray or cream sofas and also sits comfortably with antiques, parquet or terracotta tile. Add color through cushions and art; the rug will not compete.

Care & Everyday Use

Vacuum with suction only and without a beater bar to protect the long pile. Expect some shedding at first. Blot spills at once with a dry cloth and avoid rubbing. Rotate the rug every few months, and have it cleaned by a specialist in wool rugs when it needs more than vacuuming.

Size & Custom Orders

Custom sizes are available. Each rug is woven to order with the checkerboard fitted to your width and length. Confirm your dimensions before ordering and let us know if you prefer larger or smaller squares. Shade and square size vary slightly from piece to piece.

Shipping & Returns

Worldwide shipping is available. Because the rug is made to order, production time comes before dispatch and transit time after. Ask us for the current estimate for your size. Return eligibility, time limits and conditions for custom orders are explained in the Shipping & Returns policy.
