Custom Moroccan Rugs: What to Know Before Ordering
Before you order a custom Moroccan rug, settle four things: the exact size, whether you want an existing design in your size or a design of your own, how long the weaving will take, and what the return terms are. At TAZRIRT, the last two depend on which of two routes you choose.
This guide sets out both routes, using the terms published on our product and custom rug pages.
Two ways to order: made to order or custom made
People say “custom” for two different things. We keep them apart, because the process and the return terms are not the same.

Getting the size right
On a made-to-order product page you enter the width and length yourself, in feet and inches, meters or centimeters. The page converts between units and shows the area and the total before you add anything to the cart.
- Minimum size. Each rug ordered online must be at least 1 m² in area, about 10.8 sq ft. A 3 x 4 ft rug (1.1 m²) passes. A 2 x 5 ft one (0.9 m²) does not.
- Very large rugs. When a size falls outside the standard range for a collection, the page offers a quote request in place of the cart button.
- Round rugs. Enter a single measurement, the diameter. Round rugs are finished without tassels. See our round rug size guide.
- Tassels. You choose the finish: no tassels, tassels on one end, or on both.

Handwoven means approximately, not exactly. A rug woven by hand does not come off the loom to the millimeter. Slight variations in dimensions are part of the process, and we do not publish a fixed tolerance. If your rug has to fit an exact space, between built-in cabinets for example, tell us before you order.
How long it takes
A made-to-order rug is woven after you order, so the timeline depends on its size. The product page works it out from the area you enter. At the time of writing, its estimates are:

Shipping comes after weaving. The product page currently estimates 3 to 5 business days to the United States, 2 to 4 to Europe and 3 to 8 to the rest of the world, and states that shipping is free and tracked. For a custom-made design, the completion date is confirmed during the consultation.
What will vary, and what will not
On a made-to-order rug, the design stays the same as shown. What changes is everything that comes from a hand at a loom: slight variations in color, texture, weave and fringe from one piece to the next. We photograph each rug as accurately as we can, and screens differ too.
If an exact color match matters, to a sofa fabric or a wall paint, say so before ordering and ask what we can show you.
Following the weaving
You do not have to wait in silence. While your rug is being made, we can share photos and videos of it over WhatsApp, from the loom to the finished piece.
Questions worth asking before you order
- Which route is this: made to order, or custom made? The return terms follow from the answer.
- What is the estimated weaving time for my size, and when would it ship?
- How close to my dimensions will the finished rug be?
- Can I see the colors before weaving starts?
- Are import duties or taxes included for my country?
- What happens if the rug arrives damaged?
